—and this sort of commerical/advertisement is not rare—soap ads have focused *repeatedly* on black bodies in particular, but other people of color as well, as being unclean and dirty—and if they’d only wash themselves with a particular soap, they’d be smarter, and *white*. here’s another one:

I know how these “discussions” go—people get all “omg it’s just a joke” and fine, if that’s what you believe, fine. dont fucking ask box me, don’t fucking reblog this two thousand times calling me names, etc.but the person that i reblogged this from—i actually enjoy. and i know that person is a young person. and i hope that in seeing the context of jokes like this—that they aren’t just innocent jokes, but build on a *history* of “jokes” that black people and other people of color always seem to be the butt of—and that there are real consequences to people of color always being looked at as “dirty” or the “unclean” version of white people—
