I’m more and more convinced that people think that animals sacrifice themselves for humans to consume. Do people not realize there are actual human beings working in horrific and dangerous conditions in factory farms too?

I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard anybody say they’d like to fuck over migrant workers.  I have heard that people try to do their best by minimizing their carbon footprint, choosing to eat plants over animals, and buying locally grown produce whenever possible. Additionally, there’s this [apparently fantastical] idea that it’s better to do something even if you can’t do everything.

I have also heard people say that vegetarians and vegans are pretentious fucks that care about animals more than (or instead of) humans. Which is interesting. Except for that it is not. At all. If you are inclined to say shit like this, I would advise you to do some research regarding your food, where it comes from, and what’s in it.

On a somewhat personal note: I think people throw around “cruelty-free” wayyy too much. Unless you’ve grown and picked your food, it’s really hard to know about the “cruelty” involved in getting the food to your plate. “Animal-free” seems to be a better descriptor.
